This is a wonderful tute. I was so happy I could make one, I put it in the microwave holding a bowl of water. Put it on for 2 minutes....at about 1 minute I thought I'd open up the door and take it out to see how the cozy was.....Good thing I did because it was smoldering! I put it under water to put it out. I was so happy thinking these would make such nice gifts but now I'm really wondering what went wrong and are these safe??!!!

I've read ALL over the net they are safe, so why didn't mine?

I had and did the following:

Used warm and natural tater batting
Used 100% cotton inside and out (Unwashed)
Used 100% cotton thread (Connecting Threads Brand)

Do you think it was due to the fabric not being washed? Myself I wouldn't think so.

Any ideas would be more then welcomed!
Thanks,

Blossom...I wish I had some answers for you. I can only tell you what I use mine for and that is to put 'under' the bowl when I take the hot dish OUT of the m/w. I liked someone else's idea, too of using them to hold 'cold' dishes of ice cream!

Yes, I'm thinking the same thing SandyinZ4 I'd hate to give these as gifts and find out they were used in the microwave and something happening!

I've read a lot people don't have any problems with them too! I'm going to try taking some pellon Wrap and Zap and nuke it for a minute and see what happens. I read someone has used theres up to 8 minutes with no problem!

I made my first one last night. I used some leftover poly batting. BUT, i never microwave fabric, ever. Not even those potato bags. I quilted a piece of muslin on top of both layers (batting, outside print) and then assembled. My bowl has a molded, stiff look to it. I am pleased with the result.
