thank you so much! I have a twin sized quilt I'm making for my brother that I told him I'm FMQ for the first time and he said whatever. I also told him that where I start may look a little bad and he said if you mess it up you'll just have to make me another. Well, even if I mess up, I'm not telling him! Maybe now I won't mess up. I'm also bookmarking this for future reference!!!

I am new to quilting and have only stitched in the ditch. Love, love, love this visual to try stippling. I read you can practice stitching on FELT to get the feel of a quilt sandwich. (and felt is cheap) Thanks SEW much! copycat

Thanks, copycat! I love your suggestion about practicing on felt. I'm going to pick some up today and give it a try.

ADKSusie 02-03-2012 03:39 PM

I have never tried to stipple before, but your method seems so much easier to me, so I am going to give it a try. Thanks so much! Sue

Just in the nick of time! I've been practicing tonight to try my hand at FMQ. I was about ready to look for another method. I think this will help tremendously!

OHSue 02-05-2012 09:42 PM

Thanks so much, I always seem to back myself into some area and my meandering gets smaller and smaller, this will be a great way to control it.

fivepaws 02-06-2012 08:38 AM

Thank you. I may be able to do it now.

kodaknana 02-23-2012 07:32 AM

Thank you verrrry much. I have been going crazy wondering how to quilt my quilt. Now I am going to try this if I ever get the quilt done,

Great idea. I'm going to try it.

Thank you. Hope you are having a great day!

heyjami 04-12-2012 04:03 PM

We all have our methods, huh? I love your idea! Great to keep it orderly and well spaced! I like the poster who mentioned cactus - I do cactus and mud puddles (mud puddles for the upside down meandering). With the guide line it'll be so much more relaxing. I'm going to try this soon! Thanks for the tip!

sewingsuz 04-12-2012 04:22 PM

Thanks so much for this Tutorial. I may not be so intimidated now to go for it. I also get stuck in spots. I cross lines also.

SuzyQ 04-14-2012 03:59 AM

Great tip, thanks. I'll give it a try ... I can't stipple either :-(

mummadee 04-14-2012 04:27 AM

Thanks for the tute. This makes it simple enough for me to even attempt it. I've only done sitd. This might be even easier. Wow!

ania755 04-14-2012 05:22 AM

What a cool idea...I must try it... Thank you

fred singer 04-14-2012 08:41 AM

You have changed my world. I just FMQ's a lap quilt - a smallish one - in a bit over an hour. I divided into quadrants, drew snakes in each quadrant, and off I went. Found that I was keeping too close to the snake so expanded a bit. If I ended up with too much quilt under the machine I cut and restarted with the smaller side on the right - as I meandered around the snake it would turn the quilt, of course. It's not perfect, but as a first attempt that's not SITD or cross hatch - I'm THRILLED. Thank you for sharing your brainstorms with the rest of us!

rootyr 04-16-2012 03:39 AM

Oh wow, can't wait to try that! TY

carolaug 04-23-2012 01:55 AM

I agree...I love stippling and meandering, but yet to do a feather.

Sweetpea46 04-24-2012 07:45 PM

This looks like a really excellent idea to me and I am going to try it! Thank you for sharing your work!

spokanequilter 04-24-2012 10:06 PM

What a great idea!! I have followed Leah Day as well, but I've never gotten the hang of stippling either. This method looks like it will work much better and I can't wait until tomorrow to try it.

SugarGrammy 05-08-2012 02:09 PM

Wow! This is a great help! I've never heard of Leah Day but I do believe your way is as easy as anything I've ever seen. Great Job! Thank you!

TacoMama 05-14-2012 10:13 AM

I love you and want to marry you. Thank you! I always get stuck, and like you, I never wanted to cross over a stitched line. This makes perfect sense to my left brain!
