28. Then turn the piece over, take it to the machine and stitch down either side of the sashing (SITD). You’ll see I went a little bit out of the ditch on purpose so you could see my stitching lines ! LOL :mrgreen:

29. On the other side, you’ll see that the SITD has caught down the edges of the backing strip, holding it securely in place. The steam a seam is now redundant ! I know there are many on here who use Elmer’s glue and perhaps that would work here too, instead of the steam a seam. Don’t see why not !

30. You join all the blocks in rows in this way, then you join the rows together, exactly the same. Measure the length of the row, cut sashing strips this length and join the rows with them as in steps 15 to 18 above. Then cover the joints on the back with the steam a seam and backing strips as in steps 25 to 28 (these will cover the raw edges of the strips used to join the blocks).

31. Then bind the quilt in the usual way ! I used the same black as the sashing to create a stained glass window effect.
