Part 1
Step 1: Join 2 white 8"squares and 2 dark squares to make a 4 patch as in photo. Step 2: Fold block in half with right sides together. Machine stitch along short edges. Step 3: Bring the stitched sides together as in photo making sure the centre seams match. |

Step 4: Stitch this seam leaving an opening of 3" to 4" for turning. Trim 4 corners.
Step 5:Turn the block inside out through the opening. Push the corners out and press. Measure the block from edge to edge. Mine is 10 1/2". This is the size of the batting. Step 6: Carefully insert the folded batting square through the opening. A pencil should help smooth out the batting making sure it goes to the edges. Stitch the opening closed. |

Step 7: Hand or machine quilt the square with lines that are parallel to the seams of the triangle. I use 1" masking tape as a guide. Do a few squares.
Step 8: Lay out your squares rotating blocks so that a white triangle touches a dark triangle. Whip stitch two blocks together. You do not have to use white/cream fabric. You can use up your scraps using darks and lights. |
I love quilt as you go.
I use it as much as possible. Thanks for the tute. |
That looks great!
It's amazing how many new things I learn from this list. Thanks so much! |
Thank you for posting .. you make it seem so simple
|
Thank you for this tute :D:D:D
|
That's a nifty idea! Like a cross between Cathedral Windows and QAYG; I might try it one day! Thanks very much for the tute!
|
how do you attatch them all together?
|
That is my question to how do you attach them together. I love quilt as you go no tugging the other way.
|
What a pretty quilt!! But I don't know if I can make my whipstitches invisible enough for the quilt to be pretty.... :D
|
Perhaps if a person didn't want to handstitch, a zig zag stitch by machine would work? If you butted the two squares up, like when joining pieces of wadding?
|
I think you could use a decorative stitch to join together
|
I am sorry to be so dumb, I understand how to put the batting in and how to sew that together but then you only have one block, how do I attatch another one to that one Are there more instrucstions?

This looks great, I love that it can involve hand or machine work and easily get the same results.
|
So the front and back look exactly the same (except possibly for the "joins" that show on one side only)?
I am loving this quilt ... and the idea that it combines machine and hand work. Thanks so much! |
I can't wait to try it. If I can master it, it will take the pain out of having a small throat machine. I have it in line behind the Cathedral Window Quilt and Rhonda's Key Chain class. Thank you for the tutorial, that was so nice for you to do that for us.
|
Great tutorial, I will give this a try. It is such a nice size block. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
|
Ohhhhh I have another question. You said your blocks (after the folding) were about 10" and yet your picture has lots and lots of blocks (looks like well over 10 rows)...the quilt is huge?

Hello Annclare, thank you for tutorial on reverse QAYG - very simple idea but very practical - good for quick lap quilts or pet blankets let alone large quilts - saves hunting for backing fabric - buy twice as much fabric when on special and save all round!!
|
Hello again Annclare - thanks for update - good project for when travelling too, lots of little pillow pads can be made by hand and put together at home later!!
|
Thank you so much for this tut. I'm fixing to make this.
It should be fun to do :D |

Thank You for the tut. I am going to try this on some of my scraps. looks very easy. I am very new at quilting so I need something very easy
|
One more question.. is it possible to get a pic of the back ?
|
Hello Ann Clare
Thanks for tutorial on reversible quilt - I took a closer look at your cathedral window and love the variety of colours used in your windows. You almost have a mock staineed glass look like that. |
Thanks for the tutorial!
|
A question Ann Clare did you put a binding around your quilt
even through it doesn't actually need one ? |
Okay, I'm making one of these. Can't resist!
I had some fat quarters of greens and oranges (sounds strange but I built the scheme around a green/orange print)...got some white background. Have strips cut...ready to start sewing! Each four-square block will consist of one orange, one green, two white squares. I tried out the design on EQ6 and it's pretty cool :-) |
