This is one of the options for the roses in the Baltimore Album BOM. It can be used for the March 8th block.
Cut a strip of fabric W/O/F by 1-1/4" wide. Press fabric strip as shown in 1st photo, both edges in, overlapping. Cut a piece of hand quilting thread 18" long, Hide knot in fold of fabric. [ATTACH=CONFIG]118480[/ATTACH] Turn end of strip in 1/8" and tack. [ATTACH=CONFIG]118484[/ATTACH] End has been tacked, begin stitching on a downward slant, taking 3 stitches, exiting at lower edge. [ATTACH=CONFIG]119123[/ATTACH] Looping the thread to the back of the strip, take 3 stitches to upper edge. [ATTACH=CONFIG]119569[/ATTACH] Looping is important to get the ruffled effect. [ATTACH=CONFIG]119572[/ATTACH] Loop from the back of the upper edge, 3 stitches down to lower edge [ATTACH=CONFIG]120044[/ATTACH] Continue this up & down stitch for about 3-4", then pull thread to create gathers. [ATTACH=CONFIG]120504[/ATTACH] Thread pulled showing gathers, continue this method across entire strip of fabric, occasionally tacking to hold in place. [ATTACH=CONFIG]120721[/ATTACH] Entire strip completed, ends up being about 18" long, secure end as beginning, tacking in last 1/8" under. [ATTACH=CONFIG]120810[/ATTACH] Add an extra piece of fabric to the wrong side of the background fabric underneath where you will be attaching the strips. The fabric will pull as you stitch and you need extra support. [ATTACH=CONFIG]121100[/ATTACH] Pin the end of the strip in the middle of where you are placing the rose and tack it securely in place. [ATTACH=CONFIG]121325[/ATTACH] Begin the 1st circle of the ruched strip and pin in place. Tack each petal in place hiding the tack stitch in a fold of the fabric. [ATTACH=CONFIG]121571[/ATTACH] Start 2nd round of ruched strip, tucking it under the first round [ATTACH=CONFIG]122008[/ATTACH] See how I have tucked so the first round is over the 2nd. Now tack the second round as before [ATTACH=CONFIG]122009[/ATTACH] Continue in rounds, tucking under the previous and tacking each round as you go. [ATTACH=CONFIG]122130[/ATTACH] This is the corner block of the Baltimore Album BOM. [ATTACH=CONFIG]122595[/ATTACH] Finished rose, tack the end of the strip under so you can't see it. Width of Fabric took me awhile to figure them out also and have lots of learning to go
