I saw this and thought I would share this clever idea for using up batting and fabric scraps.

Trim your batting scrap straight and then sew and flip fabric scraps along it.

Once you have filled your batting strip trim the rough edges and then sew the strips together with 1 inch fabric strips. The fabric strip without batting has the 1/4 inch seam allowances with the batting to fill behind it when sewn together. I can see some potholders and placemats in my future.

Lovely, lovely. I can see you piecing them into, say, 12" scrappy blocks. when you have enough for a quilt, piece those "placemats" together and it will be gorgeous. Your choice of fabrics and colors is great!

Super idea!!!

Gee, I really like this idea. Thanks for sharing! I am going to give this a try.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing this.
In the first pictures your scraps looked bigger...thanks for sharing the pot holder size to give us an idea of how small your scraps are. And thanks for sharing...we all have scraps of both fabric and batting...
Great idea. I can just make 12 inch blocks at my own leisure and piece together a quilt.Great way to use all those scrapes I am saving. Thanks for the great idea!!!
Thank you sew much for sharing this idea! I appreciate the time you took for the photos. Your potholder turned out great!
Really great idea. Lots of opportunity to use up fabric and batting scraps.

Getting ready to sandwich a brown potholder. I am using a failed checkerboard for the back, batt trimmings for the pieced top and 2 layers to go in the sandwich and a strip of gingham for the binding. The gingham is a fabric that no matter how carefully I cut it, it just won't run straight. It has been in my stash for forever for that reason. This is going to one funky potholder.:D

Well done Tartan. Love what you have done.
Nice! Your scraps are way more coordinated than mine!

I am loving my Bernina rulers and ruler foot. This design was one I practiced my back tracking on nd the ruler really works well.
Great idea thanks for sharing. I have a lot of scraps to use up.
What a great idea to practice the new rulers out with these smaller pieces tartan! I think I might have to copy you on this one. I have tons of batting and fabrics to use up. Lots of smaller projects could be made this way come to think about it. Clutches, tote bags, strips to line a store bought dish towels, most any makeup bag pattern would be cute done like this too. Now to find the time to sort though those scraps.
Hmm, better than sewing to adding machine tape...this is now plan A!
Very nice! The quilting and binding really sing.
Thank you for this tut, Tartan - it's a great idea and your pot holder looks good.

Fabulous way to use up those scraps we just can't seem to throw out! I love your creativity!
Great tute! Love this idea. Thanks for sharing
That is a great idea.
Thanks for sharing this idea. I hate to waste anything, but the scraps will finally bury me if I don't find ways to use them, This is a good idea because the batting gets recycled too.
tartan, great job. what a wonderful idea for funky fabrics too.
Your pot holders are lovely! Thanks for the tutorial.
I love using scraps. This is a great way to use them. Thanks for sharing this.

Great idea - especially for the frugal among us who just hate to see anything go to waste!
