Thanks for sharing--love them!

That's really creative. I know some quilters save selvedges & I wondered what they did with them. I'll start saving them and give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't see your tutorial when it was first posted, so happy that others have commented recently. Thank you for the tutorial.... I have saved bags of selvedges but take them to retreat and give to everyone else.... Love your butterflies!

I have posted quite a few of my selvedge quilts in an album here on QB if you want some ideas as to what to use your selvedges on. I will be posting many more photos in the next few weeks? If you click on my name, go to my Profile and you should see the albums listed.

I have had a few requests on how I sew the selvedges when I make my selvedge quilts. Here is a quick tutorial showing how I sew each selvedge. I use tracing vilene as a foundation but you can use paper or muslin if you prefer.
I'm very new to sewing/quilting with selvedges. Could you please tell me what to do with the completed cutout/fusible image - to finish it, making it ready to be fused onto the background fabric?? I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do with that 1/2" seam allowance? Thank you so much for your help!! Elle |
I have not heard of tracing Vilene before.

I don't think we have it around here, but, from what I can tell - it's like a very light weight, leave in stabilizer. Elle |
Thanks very much for the tute. I have been saving mine.

I didn't see this the first time either. I've been saving my selvedges, and now I have more ideas for how to use them as well.
I think I may try to make some small coin purses for Christmas gifts, and maybe a stocking for my mom :) |
