    Default 'Convection Oven' for Christmas

I got a wonderful toaster oven for Christmas. I wanted it simple - looks like it is. BUT it's a CONVECTION oven. What does that mean to me? Is it different temperatures? Different timing? Does anyone have one? Love it or hate it?
I'm tempted to take it back.

A convection oven also has a fan that circulates the heat. It's supposed to eliminate hot/cold spot in the cooking area giving you a more consistent result. It can also speed up your cooking time. My wall oven has a convection option. I don't use it to cook, but my husband uses it to bake.

Did you read the manual? I'll bet there might be some explanations in there. That is if it came with one ;-) Maybe look up the brand on the internet and read some of the reviews and comments.

I usually reduce the heat setting a little, on mine.

The one I had was set up to use traditional toaster oven setting, or toaster oven with convection. It did seem to speed up the cooking time a little and make it cook more evenly. Gave it to DD as we hardly used it.

My toaster oven has a fan in it but I never use it. Love the oven as it saves heating up my full size oven so it must save on electricity costs. Most every thing fits in my toaster oven except cookies.

A true convection oven usually reduces your cooking time and temperature by about 30 percent. Not sure if those same principles apply to a toaster convection oven though. In my full size oven I have a fan as well. DH uses it more than I do. Does help when I'm making multiples of something alot. Will sometimes use it to speed things up a bit but it really doesn't seem to me to cut down on the cooking time by that much.

Thanks everyone - I'm beginning to think this may be fun. I went onto the Target website and read the reviews. Gosh, almost all of them were negative - couldn't find a really good one. Sounds like they don't last very long. I guess I have one more question since reading this. What is the brand that has worked best for you?
