Each medal, 1sr, 2nd, 3rd also have cash awards connected...amount is determined by country represented..for example U.S. $25,000.00 for gold..........I wonder how much of cost is absorbed by the sponsorships the athletes obtain.

My DD was very good at ice skating. I was approached several time about her training professionally to aim for the Olympics in competition. The sacrifice and cost would take over my life and my other child would be left short. DD would be expected to train everyday, travel everywhere for competitions. I said no and have never regretted it. DD skated for fun, won a few competitions, but in a few years she found other activities she liked doing more.
