I have to admit when I would be away on business trips and called home, and got the answering machine...well I knew our lab, would hear my voice and not understand where I was..so yes I talked to him and called him by name. My family claimed he loved it when they played back the answering machine to get messages and he heard my voice and then reheard me talking to him. He always would tilt his head from side to side when he heard my voice.

Dang right I do... Our dogs are part of our family and if I can miss them when I am gone I am sure they miss me.. ( I think) lol.. Mommy and daddy always talk to the dogs when one of us is away. Heck they talk to grandpa on the phone almost every night.. lol..

No, but when I talk to my son one of his GSDs (the one who likes me) hears my voice and reacts to it.

It can be very calming for our pets to hear our voices. When I went to pick up my Molly after her teeth were cleaned, she quieted right down when she heard my voice. I only know this because I commented on how quiet she was, and I said I was surprised. The Vet Tech looked at me and said, "She hasn't beeen!" So, I guess my baby was quite naughty. They were ready for her to go home, so they wouldhn't have her whining and barking in the kennel.

Funny story...okay. Anytime hubby and I would go out of town, we would call home to check in at night. Our girls would say,'mom you've got to talk to Chole, she knows your gone and she won't settle down. She looks all over the house for you....hubby says 'that is the most ridicilous thing for you to talk to A DOG!!

Fast forward a few months later when I am on a women's retreat. and all home to chck in and guess what hubby asks me to do??? You got it, he says' I cant believe Im admitting this, but you've got to talk to YOUR dog, she won't settle down, she goes all over the hous looking for you ......

Once I talk to her on the phone, she settles down, and curls up in her bed and goes to sleep.
    That;s my girl. :)
