Default Sewing Machine on Downton Abbey

We are currently watching this wonderful series for a second time.

Has anyone noticed one of the servants using that old Singer? I love watching her sew on it.

I ended up buying the DVD set. That's how much I love that series!

She sews a good bit in the 3rd or 4th season (?). She is the new maid to the girls' mother... (I am so, sooo bad about names.)

Apparently she is very skilled because she is sewing for The Countess!

SillySusan- I can't think of her name. She replaced Miss O'Brien

A sewing machine also shows up at Anna and Mr. Bates cottage, but not in use.

If anyone watches Call the Midwife, a Singer shows up as well. If I remember correctly, it is a hand crank. The show is set in an extremely poor area of London in the mid 50's

Haven't watched in years...but recall a woman servant using a new invention called a sewing machine at the kitchen table....she even repaired one maids apron before an event. I miss the series.

Did they call it a "new invention"? Singer had been mass producing sewing machines for more than 65 years by the start of WW1. I'm glad they had a sewing machine in the show. It was such an important part of people's lives.
