Hi, everyone. I'm the mom of three beautiful little girls, ages 6 years, 20 months, and 8 months, with a little boy due in 14 weeks.
I'm a stay-at-home mom, for the most part, and have been looking for a "hobby" so-to-speak to take up, since all the things I used to enjoy doing aren't really an option anymore with so many little ones always running around and needing supervision. :-) I have always enjoyed sewing, though it has been years since I have done anything with it. I've always admired the quilts that I have seen other people make. Not only does it sound like something that I would enjoy doing, but it would also result in some personal gifts for people in my life.
So.... what's my first project? Well.... like I said, I have three little girls and a little boy on the way. Maybe a baby's quilt? My brother-in-law is getting married in May... maybe a gift for them? I also have gotten my soon-to-be sister-in-law in a drawing for next year's Christmas---we have to make a gift next year... so that is an option as well.
    Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks!

    -Andrea

    Hello, and welcome from Idaho!
A simple baby quilt would be an awesome place to start.

Hi Andrea and welcome from Alaska. I always sewed but did not quilt when I had small children to be looked after. I did not get into quilting until I retired--so my advice is to do what you can when you can and make some gifts--that will bring great pleasure I am sure.

Thanks. :-) Any suggestions for patterns? I've never quilted before, and am hitting up a lot of sites looking for information on how to get started.... I would be grateful for any suggestions anyone might be able to offer! :-)

Thank you. Yes, I'm interested to see how I'm going to juggle the challenges of caring for all our little ones and quilting, but it seems like a good outlet for me. Maybe I can even get my oldest daughter interested and we can do a couple projects together. We'll see. :-)
Do you have any suggestions for some easy starter projects for me? All suggestions, from materials to supplies to patterns, are greatly welcomed!
    Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

A small project to start out with is usually a suggestion.
You can hand piece, it is easy to pick up and put down, portable too.
Or cut out a baby quilt and you will be surprised that sewing 20-30 minutes a day (even split up in 10 or 15 min segments) it doesn't take that long to sew up a simple pattern :D:D:D

Hi! Butler isn't too far, considering. LOL. I'm in Paola, KS--about 20 minutes south of Olathe. :-)

In your opinion, is it easier to hand-piece together a quilt, or is using a machine easier?
