I'm a 51 yr old mother of two, grandmother of five from New Jersey. My passion is gardening. Heck just watching the grass grow makes me happy. I am just getting back into sewing after many years of sewing nothing but the torn or needing to be hemmed. I have been looking at everyones wonderful quilts, and I must confess that I'm pretty jealous. I havent sewn since my kids were little. I loved to make their clothes. I have been buying fabric here and there for a few years now, always with the dream of making a quilt(or 2 or 3 or 10). I have severe carpal tunnel so working with my hands sucks most of the time. Can anyone give me some tips on a really easy beginners quilt, mabey twin size? I have a brand new grandbaby, #4 for my son. I wanted to make a quilt for him but ended up buying a nursery pattern instead because all the quilts I looked at scared me. My mother lives all the way up in Maine and I would love to surprise her with a quilt that I made. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.

Hello from Illinois. I'm just a beginner myself but I recently made a bowtie quilt that went very well for me.

I started out with this pattern, but enlarged it and added borders.

This is the quilt I turned it into.

You might also try a 4 patch or a rail fence. They are always mentioned among the easy quilts.

Whatever you decided to do, be sure to have fun.

Welcome from Southern California. There are a lot of "easier" patterns to start with. I hope you can work around the pain in your wrists!!!

Nice to see I'm not the only one getting back to this after children are out of the house! Welcome to the QB from Nebraska! There are lots of wonderful people here with a willingness to help.

Hope you can find a way to work around the pain.

    Welcome from Florida!

    Great starter projects -
    split Rail fence
    9 patch
    Disappearing 9 Patch (D9P)
    Warm Wishes
    Strip-pieced Log Cabins

If you check the Tutorial Section, ShellyQ has some great beginner projects, with step-by-step instructions and pictures. I think they are on the second page of lists.
