I'm new to this message board. Have "tried" to sew 9 inch squares together to make a quilt top but the seams are not matching up! Yes, I'm brand new at this & have no idea what I'm doing..... ?Suggestions/advice?

Hi, if the seams aren't matching up, then all the squares aren't a true 9"...so take some time, stop where you are, and square them ALL up to be what you chose...the 9"....and pin and sew same size seams, as close to 1/4" as you can get, but be consistant with every seam being same size...press rows one way on one row, and press the seams other way on next row, so when put together they won't be so bulky...and you will be so surprised how they will all meet...and look great...oh and by the way there are " no Quilt Police"...so don't worry and have fun.

Do you mean that your "points" inside the 9 inch block aren't matching or the seams when you connect the blocks don't match?

Pinning helps. Also, check that blocks are squared up properly and seaming scant 1/4 seam is consistent

Welcome from Michigan! Everyone has already offered the advice I could give, other than to pin right through the seams to make sure they are exact when yo sew.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

Accurate cutting and sewing accurate 1/4" seams are necessary to get the seams to all line up :D It does take some practice.

If you have accurately cut the squares at 9" and sew two of them together with a 1/4" seam, this piece should now measure 9" X 17 1/2"

If it is smaller, your seam is to large, if it is bigger, your seam is to small.
