Welcome from Texas, and best wishes for the baby-to-be! The only suggestion I would have about approaching the learning process is to start small. How about a doll quilt? They're quick and great for learning, and they don't have to be too perfect to be cherished by a tot. She will enjoy tucking in her favorite lovey at night, or it can be hung on the nursery wall or used as a special placemat for the little one. You will start your baby quilt with much more confidence if it's not the very first.

Greetings and congratulations! There are lots of people here to help when needed. A small trial piece might be a good idea.

I can't help you with quilting questions because I'm also new to the craft but I do want to say Welcome from East Texas.
