Default Excellent article on dye bleeds

    http://vickiwelsh.typepad.com/field_...read-this.html

I have been using Synthrapol but, after reading this article, I am going to look for Dawn Ultra Pure Essentials Hypoallergenic liquid dishwashing detergent. I have never tried Dawn because I could never find anything local other than the regular blue Dawn.

The article explains an experiment to remove dye bleeds from fabric; however, it would be equally valid for preventing dye bleed transfer in the first place. One thing it does not address is the volume of water necessary to dilute dye bleeds. I personally think that using a lot of water in the wash is important because it dilutes any dye bleeds sufficiently to make the Synthrapol (or Dawn) more effective.

Thanks for sharing that!!! I'm a dedicated pre-washer ... and now after reading that pre-washing may not be enough, I may become a dedicated pre-soaker!! Especially for my richly colored batiks.

I do not dye my fabrics but it is good to know for purchased hand dyes and batiks.
    Thank you.

That is a great article. Thanks for sharing. I use a lot of batiks and don't prewash. I haven't had any real bleeding problems since I found a recipe on the quiltingboard that works well, but I would be willing to try the Dawn.

Great information. Thanks for sharing -- I think I am now a fan of Dawn.

Looks like Amazon, Walmart and Walgreen carries this product.

Wow. Walmart sells it for only $2.67 a bottle:

Amazon sells a 2-pack for $17.10 (includes shipping costs on my Prime):

I will check our Walmart the next time I go but it is a small store, which means they don't stock everything.

I just finished my dwr queen size quilt with white background and need to wash it. The colors are hot pink and one is dark hunter green so I was anticipating some bleed. Am very happy to receive this article.
