    Default Quilters Moonshine

Has anyone tried the Quilters Moonshine alternative to spray starch for their quilts. It was originally posted on the "Everyone Deserves a Quilt" blog. Here is the link:

Sounds interesting, not sure what the vodka does.

I've never heard it called this! Cute name. Vodka is an often suggested additive to a starch mixture, supposed to prevent unused portions from spoiling. I've never had a problem (cool climate) so I don't add it.

appropriate title... I saved a homemade recipe for starch that someone here on the QB posted and it also calls for Vodka. I bought enough Ellen's Best Press to last me a long time so have had no need to try making my own.

I have never tried making my own spray starch. I have heard many different reviews of it so have never tried. I bought a gallon of Best Press with a coupon from JoAnns and it will last me years.

I use this recipe all the time and love it. I tend to dip my fabrics into the starch mixture so I know I have it saturated, then ring it out and hang it up above the sink till dry. Then I take it to the ironing board, spitz it with water a bit and press it flat. Sometimes I get it stiff enough it can stand up by itself. At times I go thru a gallon in one session so this is the most inexpensive way to go for me.

I actually like it better than Best Press. It works wonderful and less expensive. Vodka is made from potatoes so it is a natural starch.

I don't use that particular recipe but do make the homemade version of Best Press, and although it does work, I still prefer my Sta-Flo starch, diluted 50/50.

My dd works in the theater dept at her university. They use a mixture of vodka and water as a deodorizer for the costumes. Spray it on and it neutralizes the sweat smells. They call it "Ghetto Febreeze".
