Default 34 1/2 x 44 quilt panel, What size blocks do I make?

I am perplexed, I have a quilt panel that is 34 1/2 X 44, and I don't know what size quilt block to make so that all sides come out even. Is there any out there that can tell me how to figure this out? Is there a formula to use? Thanks, Lori in Oregon

Can you clarify what you mean? Do you want quilt blocks to go around the panel?

Yes, I do, and I am horrible at math and can't figure it out, making my brain work way to hard. If you look at my member pic, that is what I did before, but this panel is a different size. Thanks you.

    This might work:

add a 2" strip to each side of the 34 1/2 panel, making it 38 1/2, which can use 7 5 1/2" blocks
other side is 44, which is 8 5 1/2" blocks
then add corner blocks where needed

this uses a standard 5 1/2" square block all around

try it out with cut paper squares
