Red face apparel fabric in quilts

I have a LOT of apparel fabric and want to know if I can use any of it in a quilt. The ones I'm most interested in right now are a linen type but not as soft as linen. I know I was originally going to make a jackets out of them so I have at least 3 or 4 yards. I have one each of pink and white. They do ravel easily so I'd have to serge them, I'm sure. Suggestions or advice????

There are many quilts made that don't use quilting cotton. Victorian Crazy quilts used velvet, taffeta, satins etc. I think I would do the whole quilt top in the same fabric so you can sew it with your serger. There are some patterns for all serger quilts also.

welcome to the board. it's your quilt, you can use what you wish. sometimes i don't have the right color cotton, but have it in a cotton/poly blend. i don't do this for my best quilts... usually just for utility quilts.

Use whatever you want in a quilt! Enjoy your fabric and make a beautiful one-of-a-kind quilt. I don't believe in "rules" for quilting. Life is too short. Have fun!

My only problem with fabric that ravels is that sometimes the seams come apart. If you're going to serge it then it should be fine.

Another thing to consider is care of the quilt when it's done. Is the fabric washable, or are you going to have to dry clean it?

I make dolls and use my apparel stash for a lot of their clothes. I did one of my baby quilts for my son with his Dad and I hand appliquéd on it, I used denim for Daddy's overalls. It's on my profile if you want to see. Love getting creative with different fabrics, never know what you'll come up with!

I want to know about this also. My husband has recently ruined a couple of his shirts and I'm thinking of cutting them up. I guess fabric content should be taken into consideration huh?

If it is washable you can put it in a quilt! Different textures can add interest. Lots of quilts are made from clothing pieces that have been deconstructed like shirts, ties and jeans. Go for it!!
