I have a friend who has asked me to make a quilt for her sister, who is in Stage IV cancer. She'd like some sort of quilt that will allow space for family members to autograph it. I suggested a double Irish chain originally because of the big white squares leaving a lot of room for messages, but she decided she didn't like that -- she doesn't want the signatures to overwhelm the quilt, but just to be a part of it.

So, any ideas? I'm planning on making a lap quilt, and so far the fabrics she has in mind are:

    - white (for the signatures)
    - black with a pattern
    - pink breast cancer ribbon fabric, with black swirls
    - some sort of brown and pink fabric (not sure how this is going to look with the other colors, but she gets to pick!)

    Any ideas?

If you go to the top under search and type in signature block any pictures, etc. pop up. This might be a great resource to try.

This is a wonderful thing you are doing.

Checkout www.psiquilt.com, and under tutorials on the right, scroll down to "siggy block tutorial", this might be exactly what you are looking for. What a special endeavour you are undertaking.

I think quiltville has some. Also if you have EQ7, there are some blocks on there. Good luck and sorry about your friend's sister.

Here's an idea that's pretty quick to make with snowballing technique.

A courthouse steps with part of the pieces in a light colored tone on tone would give a lot of space for signatures.
