I prefer the 'c' setting. just is more pleasing to the eye.

I usually have fairly balanced quilts (like A thru C) if I'm working with shapes likes squares or rectangles and/or doing something "checkerboardy", but when I do something like an OBW I usually end up arranging things so that one end is "heavier" than the other, more like D or E. All the darks up in one corner, all the lights in the opposite corner...something like that.

Where does a bargello fall in this? They're one of my favorite types to quilt to make, and I'm not really sure where one of those would fit in. All the swoops and curves provide a lot of movement, which to me suggests it's not really balanced.

Are balanced quilts more calming, and unbalanced quilts more "active"? I kind of think so.

    Interesting topic.

I agree that "C" is the only "balanced" arrangement.

It is not what I prefer but what you like. You
will get all kinds of opinions based on personal preference. So, do what is pleasing to you.

Yes, I'm definitely OCD and prefer balanced. I can't stand uneven blinds or unstraight pictures either, even in a Drs. office.

I have several friends born in the first two weeks of October like me. We laugh how we are true Libra's as we want everything balanced in our lives. So yes, I agree with you about balance and symmetry.

I am inclined to use both A and C. I also like to balance my colors. My design board is my friend.

As a retired scientist, I must admit that I prefer the symmetry of C. Also, I use lots of sashing to mask slight deviations in alignment of points.

I usually go with "C" as it makes me feel the most comfortable but occasionally have used one of the others.
