I just made a bunch of hot pads and used one layer of Insulbrite and 2 layers of cotton batting. They came out great and work well.

Definitely use Insul-Brite in the hot pad. I have made many and just two layers of batting does not work if you're handling really hot pans/dishes. I use a combination of Insul-Brite and batting. They are thick but handle the heat well.

I like my potholders to be flexible & I reach for the thinner ones most often. Layers of flannel or fleece work in my world. I have a pair of 10” heavy ones that I use for trivets.

I use a double layer of W&N most of the time but insul-brite for mittens and hot pads I know will never end up in a microwave. Great way to use up sample blocs. Have a lot of fun!!

The insulbrite instructions say that it doesn't matter which side face out/or in. You can use 2 layers of insulbrite to make your hot pads extra heat resistant if you want.

I made several for Christmas gifts, I used 2 layers of Insul-brite, I liked how they came out, none of the recipients gave them back, LOL

Insul-Brite is also available at JoAnn Fabric online or in the store. That is where I get mine, often with a coupon.

Realizing how popular the microwave bowls have become I started worrying one night about the hot pads I was gifting to my daughters being put in a microwave & burning down the houses, so the next day I added permanent labels saying DO Not Put In Microwave and made a note explaining the insul brite. LOL, I know my daughters.
