The first quilt I made was rail fence... nothing is easier than that... just sewing three or four different strips together then cutting them to the same length as the width... turned out lovely...

My first quilt was a 9-patch at a quilting class. It turned our awful because of the fabrics I picked out. I went to another quilt shop, got some solid fabric for blocks and lots of help from the shop owner. It took me 3 years to finish it but it is on our bed now and I'm proud of it. (Costs an arm and a leg too to get it quilted.) If I had it to do over I'd try a rail fence first. Take classes if you can afford them. It really helps and your confidence will build quickly.

Joy...I got the pattern from e-patternscentral.com. It's called Diamonds Bargello. It was my first bargello and I only had a small amount of batik in my stash so I only did 17 rows across out of 28.

BQ stands for "Big Quilt". There are several versions of this...BQ, BQ2 and BQ3. You can find these patterns for sale at www.mapleislandquilts.com. You can make the quilt in different sizes and the pattern also includes BBQ, which (hee,hee!) stands for "Baby Big Quilt".
