A coworker has offered to sell me her aunts Bernina 1080 that was recently passed on to her.
I've never sewn on a Bernina, I have Juki's, Pfaff 7550, Singer 301, and featherweights.
She's asking $500 for it. Has all original feet, books, hard case, extension table for it.
I know it's an older machine, but I think Bernina's are pretty good machines.
should I buy or pass???

Are they good for piecing?

opinions please...I need to give her an answer tomorrow before she asks another lady at work.

That's a great machine! It's solid, built well and is a workhorse machine. We don't see too many of these with any problems at all. $500 is a good price.

On ebay, 1080s have recently sold for $200 - $550 depending on accessories, so it's in the ball park price wise. I would ask if she would let you try before you buy.

I love both of my Bernina, a 1020 and 1530. You might check on any sales on eBay on that model to get a feel for the price. Also ask her when it was last serviced.

Have a Bernina 880 and love it. Does it have the integrated walking foot. That is worth a million!

My first Bernina was a 1090 - and I still miss it! I currently have the 570QEE. THe 1080 would be great machine as the piecing is perfect. I was made in the early 90s. If it has all the accessories that is a good price, but I would ask when it was last serviced and have it serviced if it has been more than two years. Where I work that costs $100. You will probably want to get a 1/4" foor for it which is a #37 or #57 (old style). That is not one of the standard feet and you will have sticker shock at the cost but you can buy them on ebay too. Other than that, you'll love it!
