    Default Border or not

I can't decide if I should put a border on my nephew's quilt or keep it simple with the blue car binding.
    Your thoughts are appreciated!

I rarely use borders anymore---I prefer the more modern look of quilts without borders.

OK, I'm embarrassed, I can't figure out how to post the pictures. Is it because I am on the mobile site?

You might look at the Quiltingboard help section. I know a few member use their tablets for posting.

I don't like solid borders used to make the quilt bigger. A border should be part of the design. I usually do a pieced border if I want the quilt to be bigger.

I like borders because they give you something to grab onto when you are hauling the quilt up around your neck, or for little kids, dragging it along behind instead of putting strain on places where there is piecing that could fray or pull the stitching apart.

Sometimes a quilt looks better with a border. The border ties it together and frames the quilt. I haven't seen your quilt so I can't say in this situation.

I like the framed look of a border on bed or sofa quilt when you catch the edge and pull. But I leave no border sometimes on wall hangings. I think it depends on the quilt and the use the strain on the edge .

Do you need the boarder to achieve the size you want in the finished quilt. Will it be too big if you add a boarder? Does it visually need to be framed? Do you have the boarder fabric already or do you need to buy it? Does the boarder need to be pieced, plain, or busy? thing to also think about,,,,,good luck

I almost always put at least one border on my quilts. I prefer the look and think it finishes it off. Your quilt your choice.
