I have an HQ avante machine. Can someone tell me why it is skipping stitches. Thank you for your help

I've had this happen, too, and it helped when I changed to a microtex needle.

Can be time for a new needle, or going too fast ( speeding up on occasion) or the fabric ( quilt) is too tight. For me ( I have the same machine) I found if I roll the fabric too tight this happens. I turn/ roll my backing, batting, top; get it all smooth & tight, then release the back rod a notch or two. This makes a huge difference in my stitch quality.

Agree with ckcowl. Your sandwich should be loose enough that you can just grab the end of a finger (almost up to the first knuckle) on your other hand when it is pushed up from beneath the sandwich. Make the three layers smooth, then loosen as much as necessary.

I've learned a couple things directly from HQ. If your machine is skipping stitches, turn your needle slightly to the left. Or if your hopping foot isn't almost touching the needle plate when it's in the lowest position (should only be able to put a business card between the foot and needle plate), you can lower the presser foot. The old style un-screws to a lower position, but I don't know how the new style lowers.

Interesting. I have a Voyager 17 that was doing the same thing, only mine was happening because my needle was not centered exactly in place. Once I got that fixed, every thing was fine.

Thank you all for your help. I have change the needle and adjusted the quilt next I will adjust needle. My machine beeps if I go to fast so I don't think that is happening. today is a new day I will start all over with adjustments and see what happens.

All good trouble shooting tips and I never heard of the knuckle & finger tip. I always think I keep my quilts too tight on the rollers and I will give this a try. Thanks
