Default Christmas runner... but how to quilt?

I was asked to do a Christmas runner for sisters in-laws in a short time scale but am still to decide how to quilt it - I need something quick and simple.

Because it is all squares, I would do continuous curve of orange peel... but...I would do straight lines so every square had a 4 point star in it since it looks Christmas?

RJLinkletter - love your Christmas runner!

Tartan - thats great advice for quilting that beautiful Christmas runner! I have not tried continuous curves with straight lines before. Perfect for this project, but can you elaborate on how to get started??? I have a couple items that type of quilting would be great for!

Thanks Tartan that looks like a really interesting idea which I am going to investigate further. It seems like it might involve a lot of turning of the runner but I am intrigued by it...

The benefit of this FMQ pattern is it can be done all with one sewing continuous line. It is worked using the seam lines as your grid.

If you are comfortable with FMQ, another idea is to quilt holly leaves in the white sections of your quilt. Here's link to a stencil to show you one way to do so.

Thanks to both of you. My FMQ is ok (a work in progress). I’m happy to do it on things for me or things I am giving as gifts as they don’t have to be perfect. This is different as my sister has paid for the fabric and ‘ordered’ it. I’m going have a practice this week and then decide. I do love the idea for future use if not this one though (and I always wondered how people did orange peel!)

Very pretty runner. Since everything is in squares maybe something with curves or round design
