My Christmas list is going to include lot of quilting stuff I am sure.

What are some things you couldn't do without when you were a beginner or can't do without now?

    I have just the basics:

    6X24 acrylic ruler
    45 mm rotary cutter
    18X24 cutting mat (self-healing)
    Seam Ripper
Spring Loaded snipper things (LOL like my expert term - used to make rag quilt)

    Thanks!

The best "spring loaded snipper things" are made by Heritage Cutlery. They make scissors just for rag quilts. They are kind of expensive, $30 and up, depending on where you by them. But the difference they make in cutting rag quilt seams is amazing! It is like cutting melted butter with a hot knife. They will save your hands!

Well that makes sense. I haven't learned about making a rag quilt yet so I wouldn't have heard of these scissors. Have to put rag quilt on my list of "to dos". thanks!

I just bought a pair of the spring loaded snippers at Joann's, fiskars brand -- I think they were $15 or under and they work great.

A Purple Thang...for turning out corners or stuffing stuff
Fabric value filter it is red and helps to find light, medium and darks apart.
Quick Quarter used to make 1/2 square triangles or 1/4.

I am new to quilting, just a beginner so anything will be appreciated. I have many books on quilting and a large cutting mat and just general sewing supplies.
