I purchased one on E bay very inexpensively, and it's great. Fits on my lap, slanted top, very cool. Definitely a must

me too. I have one of those stick them anywhere kind of commercial lamps--the metal ones with the bulb, cheap at Home Depot, that I hang on a leg of the table and point the light upwards. The benefits of this are: 1, no additional storage and in NYC, that's often a huge deal, 2, it was cheap so with the saved money I can buy more important things--like fabric

I have used my plexiglass table also with a kitchen "under the counter" light. I also have a little white plastic table (don't remember what I got it for) but with the same light source, is a little milder on the eyes. Hadn't thought of trying a daylite bulb though.

In the "old days" I used Plexiglas on the top of a drying rack with a trouble light from the garage clipped to the rack. Can be easily stowed away.

I have done the same thing, and it works great when hand printing the quilt label in permanent ink. I first print on the computer the message and then using 'blue' tape adhere it to the top of the plastic table, 'blue' tape the fabric over that - and then print away!

Yes, here is one my sweet hubby made for me out of an old scanner. He attached gridded paper to the underside so I would have a guide when tracing. Also cuts the glare. Its a great size, nice and sturdy and I love it.

Those old scanner are hard to find now, but you might find one at a garage sale for less than a dollar.

oh, yeah, I also iron freezer paper to the fabric to stabilize it, then tape the stabilized piece to my glass-top coffee table

I am lucky to work in a doctor's office. When our X-ray department went digital (so the doctors could read them on their computers) the light box was obsolete. They let me have it. I also read somewhere that you can use your table if it has leaves in it. Open the table up, put a piece of glass over the opening and a strong flashlight underneath. Haven't tried it, but it sounds like it would work although not portable at all!
