Recently posted a make your own spray starch topic. This has lead to another question!

Do you wash your quilts after finishing them - as in finsished the binding ready for use now)? I do. Having the starch dust etc from working nthe quilt, washing seems to refresh it.

I also wash by SOAKING for 10 minutes in warm sudsy water, draining the wash water, then on rinse to soak for another 10 minutes. do the rinse/soak twice. Put in dryer until just about totally dry. So far it has worked very well. I started quilting in 1965 - so that is a long track record for washing quilts

Yes, I wash all of them when done. In the washer on gentle, then in the dryer till dry. I don't believe in prewashing fabric, so I may use a color catcher. (ok, I used some once). No problems in 17 years.

Yup, always. They get quite lot of handling and trailing around, so I always wash. Fresh air until just damp, then finish in the dryer.

I don't prewash my fabrics, but I do press them.

I wash after finishing. It gets the fur baby hair off and makes them softer, ya know with out the spray starch. :D

I wash all my fabrics first, just habit, even for applique.

Hi - not sure if you are asking just anyone or the person in the last post. However, I don't prewash anything. I've never had a problem. I like the fabric the way it comes off the bolt.

I do not pre-wash, but I do wash my finished quilts. I wash them in hot water, with detergent, Retayne to lock the dyes and a Color Catcher to keep fugitive dyes from staining. Then I put in the dryer. I want to completely shrink them before their final destination! Never had a problem.
