I do on baby quilts, picnic quilts, etc....things that are going to be washed alot. I make the binding wider and when I turn it to the front I sew it down with a decorative stitch. Fast and easy.

This method is only used if your Backing is the complementry colour that you would choose for the Binding. Taking care that you have enough allowance
for turning.

I have done this also. It was a traditional way in the 30's. The quilts that my grandmother made during this time have the binding from the back to the front--not seperate binding. I think it is fabric saving.

i do it almost all the time as long as the back matches really well its the easiest way although once in a while ill put binding on it if its something special.

I also use this method 'cause I suck at binding!
I take the point of each corner and fold it back to the quilt and then fold over the edges and make a kinda miter, pin it and then sew the rest of the edges. I also do the "birthing" method for most of the TV throws and baby blankets.

That is the way I was taught to do it. Most of my quilts, I use the backing. I usually pick my material to match the front.

No, I don't. I do a double-fold binding attached by machine on both sides.

I often do this and sometimes do the separate one. I cut it wide enough to do double it and I use a walking foot going slow and am usually more pleased with the results and it is WAY FASTER. My first separate binding was on a 108 by 110 cal king and handstitching seemed to go on for days.
