Had an interesting speaker at Quilt Guild today. Her subject was scrap quilts. Almost all the scrap quilts she showed had a strip of patches on the back. Said she uses excess blocks to extend the width or length of the back when needed. Good way to use up escess blocks or fabric from the blocks.

I have been using 45" fabric for backs and they aren't wide enough for my 92" quilts, so I have been pieceing a strip to the middle to make it big enough. Look good that way too.

I agree! I love adding a strip of fabric to match the front. It tends to "hide" the piecing line when you have to! I generally try to run it down the middle of the horizontal seams.....so I have 44 inches above and 44 inches below....width depends on what length I originally bought.

I try to do my block addition NOT in the middle. For one thing it makes the middle a little heavy, but mainly because if it's not perfectly straight it looks wonky. If it's off to one side/top/bottom it doesn't look as crooked.
