Is there any special handling/care when using fabrics with metallic prints (like some of the Hoffman Christmas fabrics)?

I recently came home with about a dozen meters of fabric by Stof of Denmark - went a little nuts when I saw the prints there (and Mom totally enabled me).

I have several ideas for using in quilts and table runners. However, in looking at the instructions for a kit using the Hoffman prints with gold accents, they start with do not pre-wash, just start cutting...

So of course, I am now concerned about how this fabric will look after washing...

Anything important I should know about or take care of when washing?

    Cheers, K

The gold or silver will eventually wear off the fabric, but Hoffman and others try to make sure that the fabric will still look great down the line even after the gold/silver wears off.

I don't give it special handling other than to minimize how much it rubs against other fabrics in the washing machine. (Front load is easier on fabrics than a top loader, and short cycles are easier on fabrics than long hot cycles.) The gold and silver will last a long time with reasonable handling.

I have many fabrics that have metallics and the ones that are batiks i do prewash in the sink to check for bleeding. they look just fine after doing that. I would recommend however that when you go to iron for the first time not to iron on the metallic side. I have read many instructions on metallics and this is always recommended. i think it has more to do with your iron than anything. I honestly wouldn't worry about the metallic. just treat it like any other fabric. can we see the perty fabric? we might want to get some hehe.

    Thanks for the tips.

I need to take pictures of the new fabric. And then I need to get it organized as it has taken over my sewing table.
