Does your daughter already know how to sew? If so, then she's likely to do well with any of the suggestions posted. (Note that I personally found the Yellow Brick Road pattern impossible to follow, others love it.)
If your daughter doesn't sew, then a big 4 patch is about as basic/easy as you can get. It is a good beginner quilt because it teaches straight line sewing, matching corners, and allows the beginner to get to know the sewing machine without the pressure of having to make a lot of blocks - a quick success that builds confidence. Once the big 4 patch is made, your daughter could decide to make a more complex set of blocks and use the 4 patch as a backing.
Good luck and have fun with your daughter!
