I've done Shadow quilts using plain felt. Is it possible to buy real felted wool? I really like some of the cushion patterns like this! Oops, that one is not the one I made but it's the picture of it.

Some quilt shops do sell wool in small peices , some felted some not. I have taken to buying items at the thrift store ( sweaters mostly) and felting my own. It's so easy to do that many have experience doing it by accident. Take the wool sweater throw it the wash on hot , and its felted. I like to by the lighter colors as I can then dye them to suit my needs . For wall hangings and I only need a bit I use koolaid for dye. My best find was a women's Pendleton wool suit , ivory colored. Got lots of great wool from that find.
There is a lot of blended fibers mixed with wool that have been felted, as it keeps the costs down.

Yes, I'm sure that there are many places that sell it. My local source (in San Antonio) is Las Colchas. Website is
lascolchas.com. Wonderful women that own the store and work there. I'm sure you can order from there. You can also buy wool and felt it yourself and perhaps save a little money.

That's what I've been doing..going to the thrift shops and buying the 100% wool blazers, taking them apart...putting them thru the washing machine and hot dryer. I find that the agitator type washer works better than the front loader. I've gotten jackets for $1.00 each. All different colors. A deal!!

Thank you all a lot! On google, quite a few said it was time consuming and a lengthy process, but looks like it might be worth it!

You can get some pretty nice buttons as a bonus I take the jackets apart while I'm watching tv. I can take apart a large jacket in a couple of hours. Alot of them have an iron on stabilizer down the front and collar area and it pulls off quite easily. after washing and drying I press the pieces.

I also haunt thrift stores for 100% wool clothing, deconstruct and then wash in boiling water and give them a couple of rinses in cold then a hot, steamy press. It's amazing how much fabric you can salvage from clothing...I find pleated skirts in the larger sizes quite useful.
