DH & I stopped at a thrift store today. We found a Singer 237 Fashionmate that the owner wanted $75.00 for. It appeared to be in good shape, no rust visible, still had the carrying case. There was no manual or attachments. I am just wondering if this was a good price?

Where I live, a machine like this would sell for $25 to $40 at a garage sale.

Way too much to pay. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine machine. It only does straight and ZZ, but it's sturdy and dependable. I paid $35 for mine, but that's because I have a soft spot for 237's. My first machine was a 237 that I picked out of the trash (lost it in a divorce).

I thought the price was too high. They also had an old New Home machine that was marked at $75.00. I have a feeling the guy just marks all machines at that price. I may go back next week and take a better look at the machine and see if he will come down on the price about 1/2. It looked like the machine I learned to sew on in Home Ec class back in the day.

Too expensive. Not worth $75 unless it's an all-metal model, great condition, and in a nice cabinet, IMO...
