Well, I got my mother's old Singer and put a new motor on it myself; got it on the internet. For those old machines WITH a cabinet, that is not a bad deal. I would jump on it if I was close enough.Originally Posted by mommamac
I saw this listed in ME. Craigslist w/ picture. Says it's free but needs $35 motor. In original cabinet - it looks beautiful but I'm not into old machines ... yet!http://maine.craigslist.org/art/2293980130.html

I just posted to the lister asking if it's still available..I'm hoping it is as the cabinet that came with my Red Eye is not in very good shape. I'll keep you all posted..It's an easy 2 hr drive for me. Wish me luck!!!

Great piece of furniture, even if you never use it as a sewing machine!Originally Posted by mommamac

If the motor is shot, it would be easy to convert to treadle - leg exercises?
I'd buy it in a minute if I were near.

The cabinet is worth the $35.00 alone. I did think about it as I saw it was in Portland. Further investigation found that it is located in Portland, Maine, not Portland, OR. Have to pass, again! Thanks for the link though.
