Thanks to all who've responded! I'm going to print off all of your suggestions and see what we can do while there! I really appreciate your assistance! Yay! I'm getting to excited. We haven't gone on a trip, just the two of us, in over 19 years. Our youngest is 18...see the connection? Ha ha ha! So looking forward to our trip. We leave tomorrow and I'm so excited I couldn't sleep last night. Have a lot to do today to prepare. Have a wonderful weekend to all!

Update: Had a wonderful time in Bar Harbor! Rather than make an 11 hr road trip in one day, we drove 7 hrs to Portsmouth, then continued onto Bar Harbor the next day via a different route that would include 3 fabric shops along the way. Fabric was not in the cards until we got to Sewing By The Sea just outside of Bar Harbor though. There had been a bad storm our only night in Portsmouth. Our hotel was the only one who still had power in the morning! All three shops (Knights Quilt Shop near NH, Marden's and Alewives) were all closed due to not having power. Even though the porch lights were on and all the lights that light up a long driveway to the Knight's shop...her son had driven by to check up on the place and notify us (another shopper from Pennsylvania was waiting

Sewing by the Sea (owner-Kathy) was a freaking hoot! What a character! Definitely worth going to!
Fabricate, right on the island was a nice place too.
Quilt'N'Fabric in Southwest Harbor! Lovely place and nice owner (Ruth) and co-worker!
Marden's in Ellsworth- had a huge selection of fabric at $4.99/yd, cordial workers, not chatty though.

Both Ruth and Kathy were very personable and if DH and I end up moving to the area, I'll become a frequent flyer at both shops!

Cadillac Mtn and Thunder Hole were great suggestions! Loved them both! Lobstah rolls were definitely a hit too! Loved most of the food we tried. All of the water activities were already closed, but plenty of shopping and sight seeing things to do. Great time of year to go see the end of the leaves changing and very few bugs! If you go, make sure you bring appropriate clothing for a very windy mountain top. Had gloves, multiple layers, hats and maybe even a winter coat if you're going to forego many layers. Make sure you have good working cell phones too. DH's crappy tracfone (a smartphone tracfone to boot) had no service. My cell, also a tracfone smartphone did have service....?.... He went hiking and I got lost trying to find the spot to meet him...but that's alright, as he met a nice couple from Hawaii who let him use their cell to call me when I drove right on by where he was!

Many great suggestions! Thank you to all! I appreciate you. We had a great time and I got plenty of fabric.
