    I'm strong on quilting enhancing the design of the block and also a "purist" that a hand stitched block should be hand quilted. Good for you! I agree with quiltingbuddy about 1/4" from the seams or you might consider that stitch in the ditch could highlight some of that, too (such as between the blue and patterned strips). I'm glad you are going to share in the completion of this quilt. You will get acquainted with whomever it was that did the piecing. A treasure and even moreso if it was someone in your family.

    See the light sashing squares and around them the teal makes a square outline? Within that square I would quilt a good sized motif, 1/4" outline on the white crosses, then see what else you might need. Sure will be pretty.
