This is just a little wall hanging, Karamarie. Here's a picture of it before I started quilting and before I put the wool applique on as well.

Your idea for a family tree quilt sounds interesting. I hope you'll post about it with pictures while you're making it.

I too would SITD only because of the very small triangles in the Tree of Life. If your stitching is at least 12 stitches per inch your quilt will be just fine.
