I have never used it, but have heard that it works great. I do think you should get one of those mini irons.

Is the bias tape as flexible when it has fusible on the back, as it is without?

I enjoy using the iron on tape frequently. It is quite flexible and attractive. The fusible is a thin layer that is tacked on loosely by a paper strip. The tape is not too thick and lays well on the fabric. A twin needle is a great easy way to apply it - be sure to purchase the right size twin needle, they come in several widths. The convenience and finished effect are worth the price IMHO. I have never tried using a bias tape maker, however.

I believe it is more difficult to move around tight loops with the double needle. Others probably have more experience than I at this but it is something we were warned of during the Bernina class.

Yes I have used the iron biased tape was doing a stain glass wall hanging. I found it easy to use and it stays in place until you are ready to sew. Its a bit pricey though.

Here is the Bird of Paradise I made using the tape.
It is a "regular" Stained glass pattern that I pulled off the web.
I then enlarged the pattern and made this. Took the photo tonight so I could share it.

I haven't made my own tape, but I'm using iron on bias on my Celtic BOM quilt. I use my ordinary iron on "Cotton" and NO steam, and haven't been burnt yet. I'm working on block #10 of 12, and still have the centre block of 48" to do as well. That will have the bias attached in stages so it is easier to handle. It is all being stitched by hand.
