It's Joseph's Coat, and here's a very thorough and well-illustrated quilt-along tutorial for it. You can always add the circles at the center, they'll help hide any mis-matched patches.

    Joseph's coat
Sizzix had a die for it but no longer makes it. the appliqued centers cover the points. I plan on making this with the appliqued centers on it, that way you do not have to match the points or even have them connect.

Cut away the points to reduce the bulk and applique the circles on top of it.

I'm envious that you have such a wonderful antique quilt, as it's right up my alley as they say. Whatever the name is, it's gorgeous. Thank you Paper Princess for giving the link to this pattern....I've printed it out and will add it to my bucket list.

Yes, Joseph's coat...I have that set of templates by Zimmerman...found on line at a give away price, but haven't tried it yet. If you are into handpiecing, this is a winner too!

I saw this on the cover of an older (at that time) magazine several years ago and it was called Wagon Wheel. I think the appliqued circle is the reason for it being called Wagon Wheel. It probably has several names, but I don't think Joseph's Coat is one. The link posted above that called it Joseph's Coat did not have the circle.
