So I thought about it the other day and I know some of you send off your quilts to the long arm quilter. But I would like to know is how to go about trying to find someone local or with in 2 hours like around Oklahoma City area. I thought maybe I could put an ad in the paper saying that I'm looking for a long arm quilter. My questions is "Is this something that would be a good idea? Do any of you live around that area of someone that I could send it too?

I think the best would be to go to a local quilt store and ask for a recommendation. Usually either they do longarm quilting of have names of people that do. I look online and 5 quilt store names came up. Also a quilt guild might give you a name of a local quilter...

Your local quilt shops probably have a list, or know some local long arm quilters. If there are any sewing machine/ long arm dealers locally they probably know some too.

Ask for referrals at your local quilt shop or guild.

Usually I look for LAQ locally thru a LQS or a guild. Ask your friends for referrals. You want to make sure that you can trust this person and they will listen to how you want your quilt quilted.

Get referrals, for sure, and also make sure to see some of the quilter's work before you commit, so you know you'll like the result. You can see their work online if they have a website, also at local quilt shows where they quilt for other local people. They probably also keep some samples of quilting they've done at their home or studio to show prospective customers, or at least you can see their works-in-progress.

I sent two large quilts to the Missouri Star Quilt Co. They did a good job and the prices seemed reasonable. I'd use them again. I don't think they do custom work, though.
