Default How do I quilt my WIP

My WIP will be a Queen size quilt. I always have a very hard time quilting these large pieces on my machine. Any tricks for easier times? I always have this 'bundle' of blanket thrown over my shoulder or dragging on the floor. Ideas please.

For quilting on a DSM, try Marti Michell's book Machine Quilting in Sections. She describes several different methods of quilting large quilts on a sewing machine, and explains how to choose which method to use. I quilted in sections - large quilts - before eventually buying a longarm. If I someday have to move and can't take the longarm with me, I will go back to quilting in sections.

I quilt on my Janome 6600 and have done several King sized ones and know exactly how difficult it can get. I found that if I put my ironing board at table level on my left of the machine, I could use it to help hold the bulk of the quilt. The roughest section was going down the middle when there was so much bulk to the right of the needle, but once that is done, you will find it much easier. It would also help if you can move your sewing machine/table away from the wall so there is plenty of room behind it for excess quilt.

I agree with Rose. Add space to the left and back sides of the table as well as to the left side of your body.

Also, try quilting in quadrants always starting from the center. Good luck.
