a friend of mine passed away and the husband asked if i wanted to buy this machine from him. he said she used it a few times not many. i dont know how old it is. nor the original price. even what it looks like. what do you think would be a fair offer. tx.

according to the information on this website, Janome made this machine for Sears, and only Sears. One commentor on another website said she thought it sold originally (MSRP) for $299 .... so, it wasn't an expensive machine to begin with - used price very reasonable whatever you decide. Another commentor said that she really liked the machine. You can google "janome harmony 4052" and get this same information.

thanks for the link. what i saw was requests for manual, which i dont need (yet). then i did ebay. no avail. i guess this machine is discontinued then.

This kind of machine would probably be sold for $75 - $100 at Goodwill in my area (assuming it is clean, in working order, and includes the box).

Assuming the machine is in working order, I think $75 to $100 would be a very fair offer for it. It weighs 21lbs, which is a little heavy for a machine to take to class (Janome Jems are about 12 lbs), and it looks like it does not have infinitely variable stitch width and stitch length (something that really helps when doing machine applique). A similar model might be the Janome Jem Gold Plus:

Although it has fewer built-in stitches, it weighs considerably less.

If this machine does not fill a need for you, though -- say, as a backup machine or take-to-class machine -- it may not be a worthwhile purchase.

so much for janome. i called them today. it was sold exclusively thru sears. and janome does not have the manual. can you believe that. and its janome's machine. so much for customer support.
