I think the idea of cutting the strips shorter is great. I've also decided to make a bunch of 2 1/2 " paper pieced hearts to add into this one. I don't know how often to sew them in so that they won't all bunch up, but I'll probably just take a guess as I don't want to do the math!!!
Welcome, I'm pretty new here too. Have you thought about appliqueing the paper pieced hearts on after the strips and rows are sewn together? That way you can place them wherever you want.

That's a good idea! I'll consider it, though my applique skills aren't that great!

I have a jelly roll Moda Twirl and Moda Marbles jelly roll too. I want to make this quilt with the small squares. I will be cutting the strips into the different lengths to make it look a bit different. So, my question is, I'd like to add these small squares to it. Will that make the quilt to busy? Should I just stick with one color for the small squares or use one color? I am a newbie and really need the help! I don't have that ability to look at the fabric and *know* what the finished quilt will look like.
    Thanks
