Default Joann's Fabric at Canadian Store

I just bought 4 metres of fabric for a backing at $5.00 a metre off the sale table at Fabricland, got it home and the selvedge is labeled Joann's Fabrics!

I wonder if they are affiliated or if they just bought a big lot at an auction or something? Just thought it was weird.

I've bought JoAnn fabric at two different discount stores, Big Lots and Tuesday Morning.

A few years ago I bought flannel off the bolt at Hancock's, and after I got it home, realized it had a Joann's label on the selvage. It was nicer than the Hancock's flannel that I also bought. (Not talking about Hancock's of Paducah; the other Hancock's that went under )

I don't think they are affiliated. I don't know the correct terminology, but Fabricland buys a lot of fabric "leftovers" - things that didn't sell as well as expected, and so they're available at a discount price from the manufacturer. This is part of why they have such a range of quality, without any price differentiation between the good stuff and the junk.

It's all one company owned by Leonard Green & partners.

I have bought fabric at Joanns, labeled made exclusively for Joanns. Then bought the same fabric at fabric land ,here in Canada, labeled made exclusively for fabricland.

EasyPeezy, thanks for the link to the Joann's history. I remember hearing that Joann's was selling out a while back, but I can't believe it was 2010. Time flies by!!

I think this is a different Fabricland; the Canadian chain Fabricland/Fabricville is headquartered in Toronto, and to my knowledge still Canadian owned. At least, it seems to be according to Bloomberg:

There are a couple other stores called Fabricland that came up in my searches (including one in New Jersey), but they aren't affiliated with the Canadian Fabricland chain.

I have bought Joann labelled fabrics at Len's Mill Store stores as well - if you're from south-west Ontario, you know the stores I'm referring to....

I wish Lens Mill would come closer to Essex County. The London store has a super fabric dept. imho, but it is a bit if a distance.
