Default Joseph's Coat Quilt- How to piece the points?

When piecing a Joseph's Coat quilt many points come together. What is the best way to deal with those or do people only use applique?

    If this is the pattern:

you have to piece the block very accurately and probably press in one direction. Not sure if you can press the seams open. What do your instructions suggest??

Try twirling the seam allowances. You can google it and find directions.

Thank you maniac and dunster. No the directions do not say. I am using the internet. One suggested cutting the points off and appliqueing a small circle on it but I do not want to do that. Others use applique to get the look.

I don't know if you are hand piecing this or not but if so, you might want to check out Karen's blog as she made one of these some time ago. She was a member here on the board but I do not know if she still is or if she even checks here very often. She always has a lot of photos about the quilts she is working on.

KLO Her site is wonderful but no I was not planning to hand piece. Is it possible to machine piece a Joseph's coat quilt without cutting off the points?

how about making the melons with a backing so you have a nice edge and then machine appliqueing it on a foundation/background block? Avoids all that curved piecing...

I think I should maybe try it both having them turn and all go the same direction and another by pressing them open. I think I will also try and trim the tips down to 1/8 th of an inch.

As for appliqueing, I do like that look too but prefer not to do raw edge and also do not like the added weight.

Someone posted a tutorial on here a while ago. I looked for it and couldn't find it. She showed how to do it all by machine. I may have been under a different name. I wish I could find it.
