Our quilting bazaar is quickly approaching. I am attempting to make some laptop sleeves out of camoflague fabrics in hopes they will sell for guy presents. I made several only to find out that some popular laptops are about 1" too large for the sleeve.
I know laptop computers come in a variety of sizes; however, does anyone have a standard, generic size that may work?

I'm not sure what you "sleeve" pattern looks like. I usually make a kind of pocket with a flap. They are more forgiving with the size. I can't find any picture of them right now.

The pattern I'm using also has a flap with hook and loop tape. My instructions were to measure length and width, then add the height to it. That works for your own personal laptop, but I'm trying to make several in a generic size.

How about makeing two sizes? You could research the sizes and make one that fits the largest size you find and one that fits something in the middle range.

I think the main sizes are 15" ad 17" but then there are smaller variations on that, too. The first two would be the main 'generic' sizes.

My laptop is considered to be in the large size category with a large screen of 17.3. The measurements for it are... 11.25 x 16.25 x 2.5.

I bought a laptop computer today. I also bought a case for it. I noticed several variaties of case and sleeve styles. You may want to visit a computer store to see the sizes of computers that are available and the different sleeve and case options there are. This may help you decide the sizes and or style you will want to produce.

My Laptop is 11" x 16" and I have a net book(one of the small laptop without a disc drive) that is 9" x 7" if that helps maybe if you can get an average size

Between laptops and notebooks, the sizes really vary... Maybe look online and most have measurements regarding their sizes. Then you could make two, one smaller and one larger?

Thanks everyone for all the good info, especially the different measurements. Dimensions weren't available on the websites I checked. I'm thinking it may be best if I make small, medium and large sizes, with the small accommodating the 9"x7" and the large big enough to fit Kapat's 17.3" screen size computer. Mediums will likely be the sizes of ones I've already made. :-)
