Default Layer cakes instead of charms?

If pattern calls for 9 charm packs for king quilt, how many layer cakes should I buy? Pattern on sale at Quilt in a day...

Not sure if doing the math right.

If both layer cakes and charm packs have 42 pieces you need 2.25 layer cakes to equal 9 charm packs.

Just checked my stash...and I have 3 full layer cakes. Now just need to find the time to get this started/finished. TUSM for the quick response.

For reference, a layer cake is supposed to be 10" squares, and charm packs are supposed to be 5" squares. That means each layer cake square will equal 4 charm squares.
